Thank you, Mackenzie. I only knew your mom slightly, but her impact on my life was notable. Her sharp wit and deep, accessible thinking combined with her passion and compassion were such a bright light and I treasure having known her, if only a little. My heart goes out to you, to Davis and to all the family.

In our years working together at Cheskin, Christopher had a gift for seeing people completely— our strengths to nurture and our weaknesses to accommodate with quiet understanding. Years after, finding her voice again through her writing felt like reconnecting with an essential truth.

Thank you Ireland family for sharing her with so many of us. She in turn shared each of you. We always felt her love and commitment to those she grew up with and those who grew up with her (you too Davis :)! Thanks Kenzie, for sharing such a beautiful tribute to your mom. — Jennifer

Thank you for this, Mackenzie. So well written, felt and presented. The way you describe your mom's impact on everyone around her is so full of love. Curiosity as a compass, indeed. A horrible tragedy. Hugs to you and the family. xxx Michael

Dear Davis, I am so saddened to learn of Christopher’s death and your immense loss! I have loved reading her clear and articulate commentaries on many aspects of our society and life. I am further saddened by not having been able to connect with you and Christopher while I was performing my ski patrol duties in the Lake Tahoe Basin from October through March. I no longer have your email address and when I sent messages to you and Christopher Michel via LinkedIn I never received responses. Perhaps you were focused on helping Christopher in her last months of life.

I hope you will receive some consolation from realizing how many people’s lives Christopher affected in so many positive ways. Her best attributes will live on through the lives of you, your children and extended family, and friends. People who respected and loved her will emulate the attributes and character traits that most impressed them. In doing so, they will extend her impact on society by offering to others the intelligence, insouciance, and love that she embodied. Take care, my friend! Those of us who have been very close to death, or even within death’s grasp, know how precious life is! This includes you!

MacKenzie,

Although I never had the opportunity to meet Christopher in person, I knew her through her writing. There was not a word that she wrote that I did not wish that I had written, except that I knew that she would have done it better. Christopher Ireland had The Gift. I will miss her. And I will apply what I have learned from her. Her flame carries on.

“A full life isn’t measured by how long it lasts but by how deeply it is lived.”

There are no words to adequately capture the profound sadness of this unfathomable, heartbreaking loss. She is deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kenzie and Kelley, you did her proud with your beautiful tribute. She was immensely proud of and loved you and the girls beyond words.

Steve, Daniel and I send our deepest condolences, love, prayers and hugs to the entire family. May loving memories bring you comfort at this immensely difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss and my own. I took many classes from Christopher at Stanford which thoroughly inspired me in many ways. I also looked forward to from hearing from her every Sunday this past year at this newsletter. I enjoyed her brilliance, authenticity, and honest engagement. I will continue think of her as I continue to pursue her homework topics. Think of you in this difficult time.
